A synthetic peptide from PDZ region of human SHANK1 (Somatostatin receptor-interacting protein) conjugated to an immunogenic carrier protein was used as the antigen. The antigen shares 90% identity with rat sequence.

Function: Seems to be an adapter protein in the postsynaptic density (PSD) of excitatory synapses that interconnects receptors of the postsynaptic membrane including NMDA-type and metabotropic glutamate receptors via complexes with GKAP/PSD-95 and Homer, respectively, and the actin-based cytoskeleton. May play a role in the structural and functional organization of the dendritic spine and synaptic junction.
Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Cell junction › synapse › postsynaptic cell membrane › postsynaptic density. Cell junction › synapse. Note: Postsynaptic density of neuronal cells.
Tissue specificity: Expressed in brain particularly in the amygdala, hippocampus, substantia nigra and thalamus. Isoform 2 seems to be expressed ubiquitously.

Maintain the lyophilised/reconstituted antibodies frozen at -20°C for long term storage and refrigerated at 2-8°C for a shorter term. When reconstituting, glycerol (1:1) may be added for an additional stability. Avoid freeze and thaw cycles.
